Join us as we unfold small moments – and big ones – that reveal our true recipe for success: community
As Program and Membership Coordinator, Mykala works to grow our membership and engage members through creative initiatives and programs.
Mykala graduated from Central Michigan University in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy and Rehabilitation, along with a minor in Disability Studies and Community Inclusion. Her education has provided her with the knowledge and hands-on experience to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by creating safe, inclusive, and accessible therapeutic programs and environments.
Mykala’s most impactful job she worked during college was caring for a man with CHARGE syndrome as a Deaf Blind Intervener. After graduation, Mykala received her Recreation therapy Specialist Certification. Continuing her work in home and community health as a Recreation Therapist, providing therapeutic activities for individuals recovering from traumatic brain injuries and/or spinal cord injuries.
Originally from Grand Rapids, Mykala enjoys the city by trying new restaurants, going to work out classes, walking her dog at local parks and trails, and taking weekend trips to Lake Michigan.
One of Mykala’s greatest joys is being the older sister to her two younger brothers. Which became even more meaningful when her brother Liam was born with a congenital heart defect. Witnessing his medical challenges from a young age sparked Mykala’s empathy for children facing difficult medical experiences.
Mykala feels incredibly fortunate to work alongside a passionate and dedicated team whose mission is to provide children and their families with opportunities to experience the transformative power of play, social connection, and healing
